If your destination is Japan, start with Japan or nearby Asia-Pacific routes; for Europe, consider European routes first. Going farther usually only adds path complexity. A node name may sound exotic, but it will not automatically put your data on a rocket.

Streaming platforms may return different results based on exit region, account region, content rights and platform policies. “Supported” in the table means the route is offered for the relevant use case; it does not guarantee identical access to every content library at all times. If the region is wrong, switch to another route in the same region and reopen the app.

How to choose a route type

IEPL, relay and direct routes are not simple quality rankings. They represent different path designs, with different trade-offs in cost, stability and suitable use cases.

IEPL

IEPL routes use a more controlled carrier path across the international segment, reducing unpredictable detours on the public internet. They are generally better suited to tasks sensitive to connection continuity, such as ongoing meetings, remote desktops, long uploads or downloads, reliable access to overseas work platforms and online tools that need to maintain a session.

These routes typically cost more than ordinary paths, so they are best reserved for critical tasks rather than used all day simply because they say “IEPL.” If the local connection itself is unstable, IEPL cannot replace checks of your router, Wi-Fi signal or carrier link. It can optimize the international segment; it cannot fix the Wi-Fi in the next room when only one bar remains.

Relay routes

A relay route first sends the connection to a suitable entry point, then forwards it through a relay path to the destination region. Its value lies in avoiding some unreliable public-network segments while balancing cost and experience. For everyday browsing, streaming, AI tools and routine file transfers, a relay is often a practical default starting point.

A relay is not necessarily slower than a direct route. Network performance depends on the complete path, not the straight-line distance on a map. A well-designed relay path may be more stable than a direct route that takes frequent detours. Conversely, if the destination service is nearby, an extra relay may be unnecessary. Relay routes therefore work well for a “start here, then fine-tune based on results” strategy.

Direct routes

A direct route connects from the current network straight to the destination node with a simple path structure. It suits situations where the local network already reaches the destination smoothly. Direct routes are often used as backups, for light browsing or tasks requiring an exit in a specific region, and by users who know their network environment and are willing to compare entry points themselves.

Direct routes depend more heavily on the actual public-internet path. Results can vary by carrier, region and time of day, so distance between cities alone is not enough to draw a conclusion. If a direct route is stable in your environment, it can be a simple and effective choice. If pages load intermittently, video buffers repeatedly or sessions drop, compare it with a relay or IEPL route in the same region.

Plan routes around the task

Do not look for one “universal route” that handles everything. Different tasks call for different criteria. Break the work down and route selection becomes much easier.

Everyday browsing

Start with a relay route near your destination. Browsing continuously requests many small resources, so completing connections reliably usually matters more than chasing a one-time peak speed. If the main page loads but images or scripts occasionally stall, compare routes in the same region before making a cross-continent move.

Streaming

Choose a route in the content library’s region that is marked for streaming support, then play content and check startup, seeking and continuous playback. Opening the home page is not enough: sign-in, catalog loading and video delivery may use different requests. If the region is incorrect, exit the app, switch to another route in the same region and reopen it.

AI tools

AI chats, file uploads and long responses keep the connection busy, so prioritize session continuity over how quickly one page opens. Start with a relay or IEPL route near the target service. If sign-in works but generation stops frequently, switch to another route in the same region and check whether other network proxies or routing rules are enabled at the same time.

Online gaming

Games depend on continuous interaction and a path that does not change frequently. Prioritize a route in or near the game service’s region and avoid unnecessary long detours. Before entering a live match, test updates, sign-in and matchmaking. If only one game is affected, do not assume the entire route is at fault; also check that the game region and routing rules match.

Work and collaboration

Meetings, remote desktops, code repositories and cloud documents do not appreciate route changes in the middle of a task. For important work, consider a relay or IEPL route and complete a connectivity test before a meeting. Once the connection is stable, avoid changing nodes for a minor speed difference; session continuity usually matters more than a busier-looking node name.

Test with a reproducible method

Route performance must be judged on real devices and real networks. Switching through a few routes casually and deciding from the instant a page opens can mix cache effects, Wi-Fi fluctuations and the target website’s own status.

  1. Keep the test environment consistent

    Compare routes using the same device, access method and target service. Do not switch between Wi-Fi and wired access during testing, or the results will not be comparable. If files or system updates are syncing in the background, wait for them to finish first.

  2. Start with nearby regions

    Choose the destination service’s region or a nearby region first, then compare route types. This narrows the variables. If you jump between continents from the start, you will usually end up with an emotionally vivid but inconclusive node report.

  3. Run real tasks

    For browsing, open your usual pages continuously; for streaming, play content and seek through it; for AI tools, complete chats and file operations; for work, test meetings, documents or remote connections. “Connected” only means the tunnel was established, not that the target task has been verified.

  4. Keep stable options

    Once you find a route that suits your current network and use case, save it as a regular choice and keep a backup in the same region. Do not reopen the entire node list every day like a mystery box. Recompare using the same method when the network environment changes or the target service has problems.

ROUTE RECOVERY

Identify the symptom before switching

“Not working” is too broad. First determine whether the connection fails completely, only one website is affected, the streaming region is wrong or the connection drops after connecting. Then decide whether to change the region or route type.

Unable to establish a connection

Switch to another route in the same region first to see whether the issue affects only one node. If several routes in that region fail, check that the client subscription is updated, the system clock is correct and the local network can access ordinary websites. Do not blame the satellite when the underlying network is already offline; the ticket may feel unfair, but it still will not reply.

Connected, but webpages will not open

Try another route type in the same region and temporarily disable other network tools that may conflict. If only one website fails, the issue may involve the target service, account region or browser cache rather than the entire route. Recheck with another browser or app before treating a single-site failure as a network-wide verdict.

Streaming region does not match expectations

Switch to the region corresponding to the target content library and choose a route marked for streaming support. Fully close and reopen the app after switching so old connections and cached state are cleared. If the account is tied to another region, the route can change the network exit but cannot change the region settings already attached to the platform account.

Long tasks keep disconnecting

First compare relay and IEPL routes in the same region, and check whether sleep mode, background restrictions or a network change terminated the connection. When a mobile device switches from Wi-Fi to cellular access, the existing session may need to be re-established. Once work or an upload begins, keep the access method and route unchanged where possible.
